GOB MENORCA | MICROPLASTIC WATCHERS
Year 2021
Marine citizen science project integrated into the Sea Watchers. The objective is to collect data on the presence and abundance of micro and mesoplastics in the marine environment, in order to work on the diagnosis and awareness of this global problem. The participants collect monthly data on specific beaches, following a scientific protocol for sampling and classifying plastics of different types and sizes. Two schools participate in Menorca.
GOB MENORCA | BEACH ADOPTION

This program arises from the need to respond to people who offer to take care of the coastline and also to face the serious problem of marine pollution. The objective is to energize groups that organize themselves autonomously and independently to know, care for and estimate the coast of Menorca, without the need to be periodically summoned by an organization.

Marilles is a non-profit foundation that works to turn the Balearic Islands into a world example of sea conservation. The Marilles Foundation finances the first year of the project with € 10,000.

The alliance was initiated by the Menorca Preservation Fund., which recognized the large number of initiatives that are being carried out on the island in the fight against plastic pollution, and that it would be sensible to have an organized and consensual common front. The 0 Plastic Menorca movement has the mission of raising awareness and consciousness about the reduction and re-use of plastics, educating about the problem and concrete solutions; and promoting sustainable tourism in Menorca as an example of success in the Mediterranean, involving people and organizations both on the island and abroad.
PER LA MAR VIVA | "A PLASTIC SEA"

The exhibition intends to make society aware of the great problem posed by the invasion of plastic waste on the coast. It also has a didactic nature and for this an itinerary is set that allows us to see different types of plastic waste and where they come from. It also includes a pictorial work given by the painter Matías Quetglas to Per la Mar Viva. The exhibition has more than 4,000 visits until the end of 2020.
PER LA MAR VIVA | VOLUNTEER PROJECT 3

This volunteer project in Menorca was carried out with a group of young people (a group of 12) belonging to an Esplai in Barcelona who spent their holidays as PER LA MAR VIVA volunteers, collaborating with the environment and participating in the activities of cleaning of the organization's coasts. This project has received funding from the Menorca Preservation Fund.
GOB MENORCA | COMMITMENT 2020

The GOB Menorca has carried out the Commitment 2020 project that has meant the replacement of more than 235,000 single-use objects, including cutlery and plastic bags, with more sustainable alternatives in less than two years, in addition to the adhesion of 44 entities and 23 schools to this commitment.
GOB MENORCA | MAR NOSTRA | PLASTIC CAMPAIGN - PHASE 2

The project aims to increase all education and awareness programs on sustainable development, fisheries, environmental conservation and the importance of marine protection. MAR NOSTRA also involves working closely with fishing communities to promote and create sustainable nautical activities and fishing. PER LA MAR VIVA | VOLUNTEER PROJECT 2

The main objective of this project is to continue what Per La Mar Viva started last year, which consists of two main objectives. The first is to carry out a thorough and deep cleaning of the selected areas to prevent these plastics from ending up contaminating the environment. The second is to collect detailed information on these cleanings to show that the areas are not being cleaned properly and that the current cleaning service is not efficient. This project has received funding from the Menorca Preservation Fund.
GOB MENORCA | MAR NOSTRA, PROTECTING OUR SEAS

This is a program designed to contribute to marine conservation in Menorca using synergistic and complementary approaches to address poaching, support the rational management of the nautical sector, improve the situation of posidonia meadows, sensitize the community about the situation of our seas and their pollution as well as reducing the amount of plastics generated in markets and local fishing festivals. This project has received funding from the Menorca Preservation Fund.
LEADER | PLASTIC CAMPAING

The project aims to reduce marine pollution by replacing the harmful packaging used for the sale of fish made of plastic and polystyrene with biodegradable bags and paper to wrap the fish made with biodegradable materials, through the point distribution chain sale of fish from Menorca. This project has received funding from the Menorca Preservation Fund.
LEADER | "GHOST NETS" PROJECT

This campaign is designed to remove lost or abandoned fishing nets, which can be harmful to the marine flora and fauna of Menorca, with the aim of avoiding ghost fishing. This project has received funding from the Menorca Preservation Fund.

The general objective of this project is to discover how long it takes a team of 6 people to carry out a deep cleaning of the coastal areas of the island (not including beaches) of plastics and other waste, to contribute data to the incidence by a service of more effective cleaning by the Insular Council.
