Stickers to remind people to use water sources

Throughout 2023, thanks to the support of IUCN and the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 of the Government of Spain, the Menorca Without Plastic Alliance installed a total of 11 filtered water fountains distributed in different parts of the island with a significant influx of people, especially during the high season. The aim of this initiative is to reduce the use of single-use plastic bottles: during the past year alone, we estimate that we managed to avoid the use of 55,824 0.50cl plastic bottles.

Despite this, we have detected that, especially in locations near beaches, some people are using these fountains as "footbaths" and "sinks". For this reason, and taking into account that water is a very scarce resource on our island and we have the obligation not to waste it, we are installing stickers to remind users of the proper use of them: they can only be used to drink water.

We hope that these stickers will serve to reinforce the message of the fonts' purpose and reduce these misuses.

You can check the network of sources as well as other plastic free resources on our map of 0 Plastic Experiences available here.

This initiative is promoted by Menorca Preservation, thanks to the support received from the IUCN in 2022 and the Ministry of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 of the Government of Spain in 2023.
