Departure to start the collaboration with TUI Care Foundation
On Sunday, April 6th, we removed 22.8 kgs of plastic waste from the beach of Arenal d'en Castell in less than 2 hours, thanks to the collaboration of 43 volunteers. In addition, during the collection, organised thanks to the collaboration of the TUI Care Foundation, volunteers had the opportunity to contribute to the classification of the waste collected, including the presence of 285 laminar plastics, 149 plastic bottle caps and 110 cigarette butts.
In turn, during the day, the Plastic Free Menorca Alliance together with the TUI Care Foundation, explained to the participants the long-term vision of the collaboration, highlighting some of the key initiatives such as the creation of the first plastic-free beach of Menorca, the promotion of the certification of 'plastic-free' companies and the expansion of the recycling project of disused fishing nets PescArt Menorca.
These activities are part of the "Destination Zero Waste Menorca" program of the TUI Care Foundation, an initiative that promotes the circular economy and promotes the elimination of waste and the reuse of resources. In addition, the initiative focuses on promoting awareness of recycling, supporting innovative solutions led by the local community.
This collaboration, which will last until 2027, will contribute to further promoting other important actions carried out by the Alliance, such as the creation of an innovative Plastic Lab to recycle plastic waste with a programme of workshops open to the public, or the collection of data to monitor plastic pollution in Menorca through outings with educational centres, social organisations, volunteers, plastic-free companies and the tourism sector.
