Comer sin plástico
Many foods that we find in large surfaces are wrapped in plastic, and that ends up having consequences for both the planet and our bodies. For the planet, it is about the generation of disposable amounts of single-use plastic. For the human body, it means being healthier, as a recent study by the University of Newscastle has estimated that we ingest up to 5 grams a week of plastic through our diet and the water we consume.
To eat without plastic we recommend:
1. Remove plasticized foods from your diet
Do not buy products with unnecessary plastic packaging and buy in bulk with your own packaging.
2. Make your own food.
Cooking is a great ally to reduce plastic in meals. You can make sauces, pasta, cookies, jams, bread, drinks, etc. without generating plastic and also, being healthier than those bought in containers since it usually contains preservatives and artificial additives.
Grow your own food at home. There are many aromatic plants (basil, mint, rosemary, etc.), fruits (strawberries, raspberries, lemons, etc.) and vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, carrots, etc.) that can be grown in pots or mini gardens. You can grow the plants yourself through the consumed seeds.
3. Remove the plastic utensils
When you have to replace utensils, bet on those that are not made of plastic. You will find wooden spoons, pans and knives without plastic handles, wooden cutting boards, metal colanders, ceramic bowls, etc.
4. Base your diet on fresh produce
Fresh produce is easier to buy plastic-free and in bulk. Visit the market, butcher shop, fishmonger, bulk store, etc.
It rejects ultra-processed, pre-cooked and deep-frozen products, they are wrapped in plastic. Also be careful with those that can be put directly into the microwave from the container itself.
